Pink Saturday

Good Morning, Hope all is well with you this morning, I thought I would take a little stroll down memory lane and see how many of you also remember these pieces I am showing you. This is called a Rosette and was used in homes years ago. Was mounted on the ceiling or the wall, used a light bulb and had a pull chain to turn it on and off. We had these in our house though not as fancy as this one. I found these in my hunt with the old house. They are porcelain and of course have little pink flowers on them.

I grew up in a family of seven children in the mountains of West Virginia in the same little community I now live in. A Happy home where we all worked in My Dads business and raised a very large garden to help feed our family, Also had farm animals, Cows, hogs and sometimes chickens. I never liked the farm work nor the garden but I am very grateful to my parents now for the way I was taught. We did not have running water nor an inside bathroom. My first bathroom was when Darrell and I married and moved into our first home. I will never forget the way my children reacted when they saw their first outhouse in later years, They called it a little house on the Prairie House as this was the only place they had seen an outhouse. Children today have no idea how easy they have it and most do not appreciate the little things in life such as inside plumbing, turning the faucet on for water or automatic washer and dryer for laundry.
I could go on and on but would be to much for one day. I will share other stories with you later.

The main thing is to know how grateful I am for my Parents and all my brothers and sisters and how grateful I am for the lessons life has taught me.
Be sure you stop over to Bevs blog and take a stroll through all the great blogs today. Just click on the little pink lady on the left and you will be on your way.
Hope you have a very Blessed week and have wonderful memories of your own.
Hugs
Judy

These are beautiful,I still remember them in my Grandmother and Great Grandmother's homes.
My children share a love for all things vintage too, I wish they could have grown up in simpler time like we did. They have it too easy and will miss out on all of the little things that we took for granted!!
Have a Blessed Day!!

Happy Pink Saturday! I love to hear more about your story living in the mountains.. and you are right that kids now a days are very lucky.. and sadly some didn't appreciate the little things in their life and take it for granted. Have a great weekend and I love the rosette.

Um, I have a couple of those on my ceiling upstairs. I have an Edwardian home and happily, everything wasn't modernized over the years before I came along to buy it.

I love the rosettes. I have seen them in old houses.

I love hearing your story of your upbringing. I have travelled in parts of W. VA (near Wheeling, mostly) and have enjoyed the scenery and historic buildings, but as I drove through the countryside wondered what life was like there. It sounds as though it was rigorous, tough, but also sweet and rewarding.

While it's true that its all too easy to raise kids without an appreciation for the struggles others have gone through - let's hope that some of them will travel, open their minds to the rest of the world, both overseas and here in our own country.

Bless you! Happy Pink Saturday!

What beautiful rosettes and how perfect for your Pink Saturday post. Life sounded hard compared to today but when the family all pulls together that just creates precious memories.

I remember seeing those in homes as I was growing up, very pretty. Your so right about the kids now days, they have it so good. But then again I'm sure it was said about us as well. Out house, how difficult was that? Nothing like going to our bathrooms sitting on a nice warm seat. Back then I guess it was not very comfortable.

Judy, I remember those, but the ones I remember were just plain white. No pretty roses or details. I agree, children now, maybe all of us, have it easy, maybe too easy. But...when the power is out, this girl is not a pioneer girl. Hope your hubby is feeling better and stronger each day. Thanks for sharing your stories. I enjoyed reading them.

Hi Judy! Those are so pretty ~ I've never seen such fancy ones before.

What you described today is exactly how my grandparents lived & I just LOVED going to visit them. My granny would boil water on the stove for me to take hot baths in a small metal handled tub. Now, I wasn't overly fond of going to the outhouse, tho. Too snakey for me!!

So pretty! Yep, my grandmother had these in her house! Come to think of it, I wonder if my children have ever seen a real outhouse?

Hi Judy!
Thank you for transporting us back to your lovely childhood. I remember those from my grandpa's house. My sister has had it for many years and she also has the metal flower that hung at the bottom of the bulb string.

What memories it brought back to me! Thank you so much....definately my favorite!

These are so pretty. They bring so back so many memories. I remember the first house we live in that had running water and inside bathroom. I remember when we got our first electric refrigerator. Kids today look at us like we are ancient. We had food on the table and a lot of fun. I am one of 10.

I remember the outhouse from my youth. My aunts and uncles had them. Yes, everything is so easy these days but we are greatful to have it this way.

I was born in WVA and most of my family for over 200 years have been in WVA in the same county! We just moved from VA here to GA. I miss the Hills there! My husband always laughs at me about this, but i swear they call to me to run barefoot in them! My Dad always said it was the Hillbilly in me! Lol Well have a Happy Day full of Pink and Love!
